Today started with exactly what everybody in Antarctica wants, SNOW! Perfect pancakes of frosty goodness forming on top of the glass smooth water with the reflection of the glacier, one could easily be confused which is what. Removing the lines and yanking up the anchor, Ocean Tramp sets off for its final destination to rest it’s keel. Spending a day on the water, traveling with the winds, we arrived at Melchior Islands! As soon as we arrive, lunch is placed on the table, the perfect hot meal for a cold day with the warmth of Brasil, Feijoada, and absolutely positively in sync with our long standing trend of scrumptious food. As much as everyone doesn’t want to talk to about it, everyone is thinking about one thing right now, “The Drake”. Unfortunately, our unbelievable trip amongst the peacefulness and tranquility within Antarctica has come to an end, and tomorrow our epic journey across the Drake Passage begins. The checklist has started, initiating the organized chaos in order to prepare. The chefs are busy in the kitchen preparing days worth of goodies, the captain and the rest of the crew are securing the boat and making sure everything is set and ready to go at 3 A.M. tomorrow. The weather forecast is in, and we couldn’t ask for better conditions. With that being said, our departure time is confirmed for tomorrow and everything is a go. Four days on “The Drake” awaits us, whether or not we are prepared to endure, only “The Drake” knows. Our final evening within the peninsula couldn’t be better, the sunset on the horizon, a last minute glacier top exercise shaking out last minute jitters allowing our legs freedom before the trip, and many stories passed around the dinner table about our truly amazing adventure. Clearly, not a single regret in the air and only positive vibes. Until next time, Ocean Tramp signing out.
Note – for the next 4-5 days – don’t expect written updates. You can follow our progress on the map as we make our way north across the Drake.
