Ocean Tramp – High Above the Drake Shake

Judith, Passenger

YAY! We are on Ocean Tramp. We had a very nice flight here. When there was an opening in the clouds, we could see The Drake below and because we could see waves, I think it was a Drake Shake, because, when you see waves from this height, they are quite big. So we avoided that by flying J The flight was very comfortable and we had a lunch and something to drink onboard. Half an hour before landing, we all changed into our warm, waterproof clothes, along with our Muckboots.

Arriving King George Island, we were bused down to the beach, fitted lifejackets and entered the Rib to be sailed out to the boat. On the beach we saw our first penguins (Chinstraps) Happy day. Beautiful boat: Ketch with Cutter rig. We got our cabins and while the staff were putting all the provisions away, we unpacked.

So, who are we?

Passengers: Annie from Australia; Erin from USA, Estefania from Argentina; Ryoko from Japan and Judith and Haakon from Denmark (though Haakon is Norwegian).

Crew: Lucas the Captain (Argentina), Damien, first mate (Argentina), Daniel, deckhand, (Chile) Mak, our guide (Argentina) and Scotty, the cook (Canada)

After dinner we had a safety drill on deck and then we got underway. First sail will be 130 nm, across the Bransfield strait, arriving at the Antarctica Peninsula in the morning.
