Judith, Passenger
Beautiful quiet morning, as we got underway from Cuverville Island and across the Gerlache strait. Breakfast special today was Coffee cake (we love our cook: Scotty). As we neared the Neumeyer Channel we saw an Iceberg with penguins on it. Our wonderful crew did an extra circle so we could watch the penguins jumping into the water and out again. To begin with there were 2 chinstrap and a bunch of Gentoo, but only the Gentoo jumped back on the iceberg. And a beautiful Iceberg it was. Beautiful turquoise stripes and patterns.

Then a Minke whale captured our attention for a while. After that it was time for Yoga on the bow, followed by watercolor art class for some of us.
Lunch was white bean soup – delicious, as everything else. At the end of the beautiful Neumeyer channel (after a look at a small Gentoo rookery on a rock), we landed in Dorian bay and visited the British hut: Damoy point. We took a longish walk in the slushy snow and watched more penguins and a Weddell seal. And had a gorgeous view with glaciers and mountains all around.

Second landing of the day was at Jougla Point, where there is a huge Gentoo colony. They make quite a racket. In Danish they are called donkey penguins, as their call sounds like a donkey braying. After this we were all very hungry and really enjoyed the Shepherds Pie. For dessert we had rice pudding with chocolate covered strawberries (did I mention, we love our cook) and saw a documentary on Port Lockroy Penguin Post Office, which we will visit tomorrow.
