Happy World Otter Day!

Quixote Expeditions is excited to celebrate WORLD OTTER DAY!!  In the height of the Austral Summer we are in Antarctica, but on the sides of the season Quixote Expedition supports Argentine Scientist Alejandro Valenzuela study otters on Isla de los Estados.  In November of 2016 he came onboard Ocean Tramp as our Guest scientist.  Otters had been reported, but never properly documented and confirmed on the island.  Ale set out to install 5 motion detector cameras to have real data on the otters of the Island.  Ocean Tramp then made 2 more trips to the island and collected the videos each time.  What Ale found was super exciting an now he wants to go back.

YES there are indeed Southern River Otters on the island and they are pretty active (if you have cameras to watch them).  The cameras caught them playing, eating fish, pooping, and just passing through.  Pretty cool.  The Cameras also captured videos of birds that had previously not been fully documented and now there is proof they are there!

Enjoy the Otter Photos from Isla de los Estados and get your fill of otters for World Otter Day.
