A short interview with Heike, one of our intrepid passengers onboard
What made you decide to come to Antarctica?
A good friend asked if I wanted to join. It was a once in a life time invite!
What have been some of your impression of Antarctica?
I just don’t have the words to describe the beauty and the potential danger.
2 Days ago you went on a short hike…
We left the boat and put on snow shoes and climbed up on a glacier. In order to have a spectacular view once on top.
Was it a flat hike?
Oh no – it was relatively steep and a good experience for snow shoeing
How did most people get down?
On their butts or bellies sliding down, like children tubing down, without tubes!
Where was the boat anchored that night?
We were anchored next to a burned out whale boat, the Governoren. [burned over 100 years ago and now provides one of the best and most protected anchorages in Antarctica]
What would you say to people thinking about coming to Antarctica?
Its not for sissys.
Anything to tell your sons?
You have to go – both of them, absolutely, it goes high on the bucket list.
A continued thanks to our readers – a question. We are currently debating the origin of the word Ketchup. Any help?
