Citizen Science Making National News

Travel + Science

This week the Washington Post published an article about the growing trend of traveling for science and explaining the concept of Citizen Science!  In Sunday’s Travel section, their article, Like to travel? Interested in wildlife? Then researchers want to hear from you. explained the concept – which is one we have embraced since the beginning of Quixote Expeditions!  We have science on all of our trips.

The article highlights a citizen science project that Quixote actively participates in – HappyWhale.  All of our passengers have the chance to participate with their photos taken from Ocean Tramp, Hans Hansson, or the Dinghies.  One reason we love HappyWhale is that after photos are submitted, Happywhale sends each participant updates about “their” whales.

We are so excited that travel and Citizen science are making the news – its an incredible bonus to add to an already amazing travel experience.  What we feel is that our passengers get to go home with not only amazing photos and experiences, but a story – one with science behind those photos to share with friends and family – becoming true Antarctic Ambassadors.

Interested in taking photos for HappyWhale (and watching some amazing humpbacks) and joining an amazing trip to Antarctica?  Check out our trips!
