Puerto Español

Excellent progress on the first day! Ocean Tramp is abeam of Puerto Español near the eastern Entrance of the Beagle Channel.

Puerto Español is one of the last safe anchorages prior to crossing the Straits of Lamaire that separate Isla de los Estados from Tierra del Fuego.  Now Ocean Tramp has excellent winds and doesn’t need to stop, but sometiems she does.

Puerto Espanol

Puerto Español is locally famous as the harbor that Allen Gardiner and his team retreated to after mishaps with the Fugean natives.  Allen Gariner was one of the early missionaries.  Allan and his seven men met many mishaps – storms that damaged their boat, misplaced gun powder, and limited success converting the natives.  They had to retreat to Spanish Harbor to wait for more supplies from England.  Provisons never came and they died in a cave in Spanish Harbor.
