With light winds forecasted we decided to spend the day in La Paloma. It a fishing town that faces the Atlantic Ocean. In the summer its quiet beaches are visited by a quieter crowd and in the off season, the town is – quiet. It was my first time to visit so in the morning we took a stroll around town.
The previous day’s efforts at fishing had not produced the hoped for results, so we tried a different tactic – using 2 x 1.5 liters of Chilean wine as bait. Nestor cast the bait as a fishing vessel was just retuning to our dock. The crew took the bait and we ended up with 1 Corvina and 4 brotola (sorry – don’t know what the English is for this fish – I”ll take any suggestions).
Fede spent his summers catching and selling fish on the beach in his home town, so he quickly sharpened a knife and got to work. The Corvina went into the ceviche and the other 4 were cooked into a very nice fish stew by Nestor. While it was a late lunch it was worth waiting for.
Tomorrow we set off early for Brazil. Stay tuned…
