John, Passenger
After a long days motoring yesterday and a quiet night spent at Deception Islands Port Faster (Whalers Bay) It was nice to get ashore at Telfon Bay. From the beach we walked up the gentle scree slope to the crater rim of the volcano that last erupted in 1969/70. Unfortunately the cloud descended which restricted our view of the rugged and spectacular landscape.

After making our way back to the beach a short Zodiac ride saw us in Pendulum cove. Steam rising at the waters edge greeted us on landing.
The geothermal activity heats the water around the shoreline and when we nestled our hand into the scoria the water was almost too hot to touch.
This after we made another shore landing this time in Stancombe cove. A small secluded bay at the western end of Port Foster. Guide Alex quickly head us trekking up The scoria slopes to the highest point in the bay. This time the cloud had lifted sufficiently to give us spectacular views across Port Foster. It was a time for reflection as our time in Antarctica has come to an end. It has been a truly amazing experience, there are no words to describe this remarkable place only memories that will last a life time.
