BLOG day 10.
The day began with pancakes; sweet anticipation of the day to come! We hiked up Doumer Island to 360 degree views of Dorian Bay, Fort Lockroy, and Wiencke Island. We spent time in Damoy Hut, established by the British Antarctic Survey in November 1975. Where the personnel stationed there organized the transfer of cargo to the ski-way by snowmobile and to aid the pilots by providing vital weather reports. After climbing down we were rewarded with a radiating multicolored jellyfish on the shore.
After another delicious lunch of Fettuccine, cheese & mushrooms we were excited to sail through Lemaire Channel. A few icebergs put a little more hair on the chests of our skipper and crew but we all were rewarded again with more spectacular views. We even spotted our first Adelie Penguin on an iceberg encouraging us onwards. We anchored and tied up to our resting spot between Booth Island and Hovgaad Island.
To cap our lovely day off our Chef surprised us with a beautiful strawberry cheesecake with a touch of orange!
